Server parameters

The parameters you read with getParameter, with their default and when you can change each one.

You read one parameter with db.adminCommand({getParameter: 1, cursorTimeoutMillis: 1}) and all of them with getParameter: "*". The ones that change at runtime take setParameter, with no restart of the node. The ones set at startup go in --setParameter name=value or in the setParameter key of the configuration file. The defaults are what getParameter: "*" returns on a node that has just started.

ParameterDefaultAt runtimeAt startupWhat it is for
auditAuthorizationSuccessfalseYesYesWith true, successful authorization checks go to the audit log too.
authSchemaVersion5NoNoThe version of the schema of users and roles, which mongodump and mongorestore read. It cannot change.
clientCursorMonitorFrequencySecs4YesYesHow often, in seconds, expired cursors and sessions are closed.
clusterAuthModeundefinedYesNoHow the nodes of the cluster authenticate to each other. It is set at startup with --clusterAuthMode and moves one step at a time at runtime.
cursorTimeoutMillis600000YesYesIdle milliseconds after which a cursor opened outside a session is closed.
enableTestCommandsfalseNoYesTurns on the test commands, such as configureFailPoint. It is only set at startup.
internalQueryMaxMemoryUsageBytesPerOperation1073741824 (1 GiB)YesYesThe memory the stages of one operation may hold. Past it a $group writes to disk, or fails with 292 without allowDiskUse.
internalQueryMaxSingleExpressionMemoryUsageBytes104857600 (100 MiB)YesYesThe memory one constant expression may hold when it is computed ahead of time.
internalQueryPlannerEnableHashIntersectionfalseYesYesAllows plans that intersect two indexes with a hash table (AND_HASH).
internalQueryStatsRateLimit0YesYesHow many queries a second $queryStats counts when it does not sample. -1 counts all of them and 0 none.
internalQueryStatsSampleRate0.01YesYesThe probability that $queryStats counts a query. With 0 the per-second limit applies.
localLogicalSessionTimeoutMinutes30NoYesIdle minutes after which a session is closed. It is only set at startup.
maxConcurrentMultiDocumentTransactions10000YesYesThe client transactions a node keeps open at once. With 0 there is no limit.
ocspEnabledtrueNoYesStaples the OCSP response to the certificate of the server. It is only set at startup.
ocspStaplingRefreshPeriodSecs-1NoYesHow often, in seconds, the stapled OCSP response is refreshed. With -1, halfway to its nextUpdate.
ocspValidationRefreshPeriodSecs-1NoYesHow often, in seconds, a certificate is checked again over OCSP. With -1, by the nextUpdate of the response.
redactClientLogDatafalseYesNoWith true, the log hides the documents of the clients. At startup it is set with the --redactClientLogData option.
tlsOCSPStaplingTimeoutSecs-1NoYesSeconds to wait for the OCSP responder when stapling. With -1 it uses tlsOCSPVerifyTimeoutSecs.
tlsOCSPVerifyTimeoutSecs4NoYesSeconds to wait for the OCSP responder when checking a certificate.
transactionLifetimeLimitSeconds60YesYesSeconds a transaction may last before it is aborted.
useInternalAuthzForX509falseYesYesInternal authorization for MONGODB-X509 users under LDAP authorization. It is kept and shown, but as on MongoDB Enterprise those users keep the roles of their LDAP groups.
