Licensing and pricing questions

The licence, what counts as a node, how to change plan and the support each plan has.

What is the licence?

TeselaDB is distributed as a binary and a Docker image under the TeselaDB License, from VIUZI ESP. Outside production it is free, with no limits. In production it is free too, commercial use in your company included. For that, your nodes must add up to 32 GB of RAM or less and your organization must have had less than EUR 1,000,000 of revenue in its last fiscal year, both at the same time. If you go over either of them, you need a commercial licence, whatever your use. You also need it to sell TeselaDB to third parties as a hosted or managed service and to redistribute it in a product of yours. Using it as the database of your own applications, which your customers use, does not count as a service.

The RAM of a node is what its process can use: the limit of its container or cgroup, or the memory of the machine when there is no limit, rounded up to the gigabyte. Three nodes of 8 GB add up to 24 GB and are free if your revenue is under EUR 1,000,000. Three of 16 GB add up to 48 GB and need a licence. The licence does not allow modifying or decompiling the binary, beyond what the law grants every user. Every download archive and the image carry the full text in LICENSE.

What counts as a node?

Each teseladb start process that is part of a production cluster. Development and CI nodes do not count. For free use you can run as many nodes as you like as long as they add up to 32 GB of RAM or less.

Can I change plan?

Yes. When you move from Development to Production you use the same binary and the same data, so you do not reinstall anything or export and import collections to make the move. Only the licence changes.

Do I pay extra for the REST API or the MCP server?

No. They come in the same binary as the database and are included in every plan, the Development plan as well.

What support do I get?

On Development you have help from the community, while on Production you get email support on business days. On Enterprise, dedicated support around the clock with an SLA and a custom contract. Compare the plans on Pricing.
