Restore

Restore a backup taken with teseladb admin backup into a new, empty cluster. The backup brings every range back at the timestamp it was taken at.

Requirements

• Access to teseladb admin on a node of the cluster. On the target cluster.
• A cluster with no collections and a single data range.
• The backup folder, with its manifest.bson.

Restore the backup

teseladb admin restore --from /backups/2026-11-03

Before touching anything, the command checks the SHA-256 of each file against manifest.bson.

Check

The collections and documents of the backup appear in the new cluster with the data at the backup timestamp.

Common problems

• restore fails without changing anything because the target cluster already has collections.
• restore fails because the SHA-256 of a file does not match. The backup is damaged and cannot be used.
